Next-generation Organisational Improvement Model for P3M

Murray’s research study (2016-2021) has developed a next-generation model for improvement in Organisational Project Management (OPM). It has incorporated a five-year literature review examining existing maturity models for portfolio, program and project management and has identified management functions and disciplines that may be incorporated into future models.

The study has sought a broad range of views from relevant experts using surveys and interviews, and has demonstrated how the model can be applied using five Australian and International case studies. The research suggests that a model needs considerable customisation, especially of language, and strong leadership before adoption by an organisation. It maintains that organisational strategy, change management, business benefits and professional development are the hallmarks of a next-generation corporate improvement model that interfaces Operational Management with Portfolio, Program and Project Management (P3M).

Its significant original contribution to knowledge is the development of a model that focuses on the behavioural and cultural aspects of P3M and demonstrates how its components can be embedded seamlessly into an organisation’s business management.
