Stakeholder and Community Engagement is an emerging maturity in the delivery of infrastructure. Major projects are beginning to appreciate and address the need for stakeholder engagement across the ENTIRE project lifecycle.

This panel discussion will particularly consider the integration of Community Engagement teams with on the ground delivery teams during implementation and delivery.

A brief presentation by GHD's Service Line Leader for Engagement and Communications and Communities (APAC), followed by engagement from leading industry professionals representing project sponsors / director level; Engagement and Consultation and Project Management, all looking smart and leading edge ways to address the key areas of:

  1. Tailoring your engagement approach
    • Engagement practitioners identify impacted stakeholders, their level of interest/influence as well as the most effective channel for communication.
    • Not all stakeholders require the same information at the same time or via the same channel.
  2. Understanding stakeholder interests and involvement
    • Understanding the stakeholder’s level of interest and needs will help determine their level of involvement. Some may want to provide input, while others may want to observe.
  3. Managing expectations
    • Informing and consulting stakeholders helps to manage their expectations. Communication should be timely, engaging and accurate. If required, dispel any project myths!
  4. Mitigating project risks
    • Internal or external, stakeholder interests can influence and have a positive or negative impact on a project. Consultation and communication with internal and external stakeholders is key to not only understanding project risks, but to managing and mitigating those risks.
